Retail Therapy

Boutique shopping at your doorstep

We're pretty sure we don't have to tell you twice about the importance of self-care (after all, you chose Kimpton Lorien Hotel & Spa as your DC-area home). And that means regularly treating yourself to whatever inspires and lifts you up — whether that's booking a rejuvenating spa service or buying yourself a new piece of clothing in which you feel especially empowered.

Luckily for our guests, our Old Town Alexandria address puts us in the heart of a thriving retail zone that features dozens of shopping treasures from massive stores to quaint boutiques. Just like this town itself, our neighborhood flawlessly melds the classic and elegant with the modern and cutting-edge. (For example, at Sara Campbell, you'll find goods by a Boston-based designer inside a yellow Victorian building. Expect to find women's accessories and apparel that mix luxurious fabrics "with both timeless and on-trend silhouettes.")

The free King Street Trolley shuttles passengers along Old Town's main strip, where the majority of these shops can be found. Use online resources to navigate the Old Town Boutique District's 30+ shops that stock one-of-a-kind items and hard-to-find brands, ranging from home decor and gifts to fashion, jewelry, children's apparel, food, and wine.

In addition to a handful of beloved national brands such as Lululemon, Anthropologie, and Sur la Table, King Street is home to other favorites that range from Red Barn Mercantile (a delightful mix of new and antique furniture plus gifts and home decor items) and Curated ("pretty things for gift and home") to The Hour ("curated goods for the modern home bar").

A myriad of women's boutiques include TSALT ("chic and sophisticated clothing that will travel well"), Bishop Boutique (shoes, handbags, and accessories), Current Boutique (designer consignment), The Shoe Hive, Bellacara (cosmetics, skin care, and hair products), and She's Unique Jewelry Boutique.

Just across the street from the Lorien, you'll find independent children's bookstore Hooray! For Books, while foodies flock to Fleurir Chocolates, La Cuisine, Society Fair, Olio Tasting Room, and the Italian Market at Carluccio's.

The Torpedo Factory, home to 82 working artist studios and seven galleries, is a haven for creative types, as are fibre space ("a yarn universe") and Stitch Sew Shop. Find other specialty items at Pacers Running and The Dog Park … the list goes on and on! No matter where you decide to shop, we guarantee you'll find gifts for others and yourself that brighten any day.
